 Shattered Horizon

I'm pretty out of it as far as gaming news, as well as updates on this site. However, if you're looking for something fresh in the way of the "Jetpack", you may be interested in Shattered Horizon. It's what I would call 4 dimensional game play, as players are not limited to one field of "rotation". Possibly not a "Tribes"-esque game, the game may pan out to be a hit.

The game releases tomorrow, November 4th, is available on Steam for pre-purchase ($20), and you can save $2 by pre-ordering.

You can read all about the game and watch some nice videos at their site here: http://shatteredhorizon.com/

Recently Left 4 Dead was patched through with the much awaited "community content" patch. The authoring tools have been updated, and the game now supports custom maps to be played online. Options have been added to the in-game menus to support Add-ons.

The authoring tools' updates include:
  • The tutorial_standards map has been expanded into a minimal example campaign add-on called 'Dead Line'
  • A new command line utility for creating and extracting from .VPK files
  • Source files for all the official campaign maps

This is a quote from here.

There have been a number of questions come up after the announcement that we will be releasing Tribes using the InstantAction technology earlier this week. I've taken the liberty of writing up a quick FAQ that addresses some of the more common questions I've heard.

If you want to learn more feel free to stop by the booth at GDC and ask for me.

What Everyone Wants to Know Now

Q: When is it coming?

A: I don't know yet. Hopefully soon.

Q: How does the website PlayTribes.com amount to more than just "tribes in a browser"? Can't I get all the same functionality playing the game standalone from an installer?

A: The platform that PlayTribes is built upon provides us with a unique opportunity to present a community experience for the game Tribes that has never been seen before. The core technology itself enables...
